I think I struggled most with the dialogue on this page. I was trying to get it across that she is reading the book very fast, and that she is using it to learn the “common language” of the area. Hopefully I did a decent enough job. I am still experimenting with the artwork, you will see that throughout this issue. Feedback would be great. Let me know what you like and don’t like. I will take it into consideration as I move forward with Rogue Programming. I love comments so feel free to leave one, and as always please click the link and vote, there is a recently new vote incentive.

I read all the pages and I can respect the effort and skill you've put into it. The genre-crossing is an interesting idea and can be quite fertile ground for some wild ideas. As to this particular page, allow me to offer my opinion on the things you mentioned. I think perhaps the struggle you may feel with getting across the concept of the cyborg/robot(?) of assilmiating the information in that book may be more art-based than dialouge-based. What might have helped is perhaps a frontal shot of the book with some special effects as if being scanned, then a pulled back shot of her going through the book instead of just her hand and pages turning. And maybe stating more clearly what her precise intent is, maybe stating an error in language comprehension or something like that. With all due respect, the dialouge wasn't too clear to me on that. I often struggle with telling a story because I sometimes forget that I must convey all the information to the reader that I need to since I already have all the story in my head. I sometimes need to take an objective look at my sequential art and dialogue to make sure it is precise and clear. Again, this is but my opinion, NOT a criticism. I hope it can be of a little help, or at least entertaining.

Wow thanks for taking the time to comment the page Grey. Those are actually some really good ideas. I might actually go back and rework the page using some of those. If I can get the time of course. That is always be big if these days. Story telling is defiantly the part of this I struggle with most, so any help I get is appreciated.

Maybe it's because I saw this coming, but I had no trouble telling what she was doing. And "Super Speed Reading" is a named trope:

Really good artwork. Also love the fact that you hardly ever do backgrounds and nobody seems to mind. I am thinking why am I spending a lot of my time on something difficult to do that no one really seems to cares about anyways?

In closing, I admire your ability to focus in on what people like and ignore stuff that doesn't matter.

Its funny you say that dougwarner, because I have been feeling like I should do more with the backgrounds. I have been really struggling with time vs quality lately so I sacrificed a lot of background detail. I will say that I think that with issue two I have figured out a lot of things and art wise I have been able to move a lot more quickly, so maybe with issue three I will be able to do even better. Thanks for the kind words, I hope you stick around and keep reading.

Personally, I thought it was pretty clear what was going on in this page. It may have helped that I read it immediately after the previous page, though, and was anticipating that she'd pick up "Guide to the Common Language". Although since she presumably couldn't read Common beforehand, I don't know how she'd know which book would be most helpful.

It's clear from her, um, "thought" bubbles ("debug log", perhaps?) that she has a pre-programmed concept of language, and can draw inferences about an unknown language's structure from written examples--which raises more questions: Why didn't she learn any of the language by listening to it? And, will understanding the written structure help her at all with speaking the language?

My wild guess for the day: she's deaf, and will need a slate or something to communicate. Except when she encountered the demon hunters, she observed, "Language not recognized." So this seems a bit mysterious! I look forward to seeing where you take it. :-)
